With the pandemic restricting travel for so long, so many unforgettable plans were altered or cancelled altogether. But now, most of Europe has opened its doors once more. With the prospect of a summer filled with much-needed travel and exploration, making up for lost time, what is the current landscape in Europe for LGBTQ+ people? Of course, LGBTQ+ people deserve to feel safe and have their rights respected everywhere – as tourists or permanent residents. But we know that some places are ahead of others in making that vision a reality. In May, ILGA-Europe released its annual Rainbow Europe Map. The list ranks 49 European countries based on 74 different criteria, such as inclusivity, equality, legal gender recognition, hate crimes, hate speech and asylum. Each country is awarded a percentage between zero and 100. (Forget Eurovision, this is the most important ranking there is). Malta took the top spot for the seventh year in a row, with an impressive score of 92 per cent for 2022. The small island nation was an impressive 19 per cent ahead of Denmark, which placed second with 73 per cent, with Belgium placing third with 71 per cent.
Malta has a long history of queer acceptance and is one of few nations where LGBTQ+ rights are recognised at a constitutional level. It has shown itself to be ahead of the curve when it comes to expanding LGBTQ+ rights and repealing discriminatory legislation – for example, LGBTQ+ people have also been allowed to serve openly in the military since 2002.El joven Hylas había sido recogido por Hércules cuando su combate con los Dryopes.

Cathedrals should bless gay marriage not build helter skelters and crazy golf courses, says ex-Stonewall CEO
The ex-CEO of Stonewall has criticised two cathedrals in England for installing a helter skelter and a golf course in their respective naves.
Ben Summerskill, who was chief executive of the LGBT+ rights charity from 2003 to 2014, said that churches should instead celebrate equal marriage in a letter to the Guardian on Sunday (August 11).
On Friday (August 9), it was revealed that Norwich Cathedral had put up a 55ft high helter skelter in its building after Rochester Cathedral introduced a crazy golf course in its nave at the end of July.

People are actually defending bishop who claimed homosexuality is transferred by anal sex
38 academics from across the world have signed an open letter in support of a Cypriot bishop who claimed gay people exist because their mothers enjoy anal sex while pregnant.
He explained: “It happens during the parent’s intercourse or pregnancy. It follows an unnatural sexual act between the parents.
“To be more clear, anal sex. [Saint Porfyrios] says that when the woman enjoys that, a desire is created, and then the desire is passed on to the child.”
The outrageous claim went viral online, with many pointing out that it does not explain where lesbians come from.

Actor Antonio Banderas says he ‘owes his life’ to a drag queen.
The Spanish actor said he was driving a motorbike in 1976 when he got into a serious accident.
“The front wheel of my motorbike went into a ditch and, boom! I hit a car and my head hit the tank,” he told The Independent.
Banderas said his saviour – described as a ‘drag queen’ in a wig and dress – “came from nowhere, got in the middle of the road and stopped a car to take me to hospital”.
Forty-three years on, Banderas retold the story while promoting his new film, Pain and Glory, in which he plays a gay character.

AKHENATHON.

Islamic extremists are obsessed with gay porn, says expert
Robert Graham, a consultant at Errata Security, went on to suggest that some Islamist extremist hackers were closeted gay or bisexual men, who developed their computer skills so as to bypass censorship technologies used in their homophobic countries.
According to Graham, these extremists are often required to post images of their genitalia as part of their initiation process.
“I’ve explored the cyber Islamic dark web and come to a couple conclusions about it,” Graham wrote.
“The primary motivation of these hackers is gay porn.
“A frequent initiation rite to gain access to these forums is to post pictures of your, well, equipment.”
He continued: “Such things are repressed in their native countries and societies, so hacking becomes a necessary skill in order to get it.”
Graham explained that it was difficult to understand why gay Islamic extremists would engage with terrorist ideology that advocates against the western world and LGBT+ rights.
